John Calvin

John Calvin (1509-1564) was a French theologian, pastor, and reformer whose work shaped the Reformed tradition. After studying law and embracing the Protestant Reformation, he ministered chiefly in Geneva, where he preached, taught, and helped order the city's church life. His most influential work, Institutes of the Christian Religion, became one of the defining theological texts of the Reformation.
